Message from Dr. B. (Linda Paulk Buchanan): This is what I’ve tried often to convey, but I like this metaphor better than any of the others I’ve been using, such as truck making groves in the ground or what wires together fires together. These are good but I love this one (sent to me by one of our participants today). If you don’t struggle with bulimia, put any other word in its place and it’s the same for anything you do struggle with such as low inadequacy feelings, bad habits, pessimistic thinking, etc. Start changing your thoughts today — every time that you have the problematic thought or urge, follow it up quickly with an opposing thought.
